PEG Feeding Refresher Course
This refresher course strengthens the knowledge and practical skills of experienced caregivers and healthcare professionals who support individuals with Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tubes.
The session revisits key aspects of feeding tube care and administration, including tube maintenance, safely managing enteral nutrition, bolus and pump feeding techniques, infection control, medication delivery, and responding to emergencies such as tube dislodgement.
Learners take part in practical, hands‑on activities designed to rebuild confidence, reinforce safe practice, and promote effective, person‑centred support. Depending on your team’s needs, the course can also cover both enteral feeding and gastrostomy tube care in more depth.
Because this course is only suitable for experienced professionals, it does not include practical sessions. Instead, the focus is on problem-solving, updates on compliance, understanding new methods, reviewing case studies, and discussing questions from peers.
The course is highly engaging and interactive, as participants share relevant knowledge and skills based on their industry experience.
If you are new or inexperienced, we recommend the full-day PEG feeding training, which allows you to benefit from practical elements and gain the skills needed to achieve workplace competency.
What the refresher course covers:
The course covers the PEG feeding techniques, including its purpose, indications, relevant anatomy, and the different types of PEG tubes. It also covers care and maintenance, such as site cleaning, tube rotation, infection prevention, and proper equipment handling.
Feeding techniques are addressed, including the safe administration of feeds via bolus or pump, hydration, and giving medication. Participants will learn problem-solving skills for common complications, such as blockages or leaks, as well as emergency protocols for handling dislodgement and other urgent situations.
The course also emphasises the importance of accurate documentation and record-keeping.

PEG Feeding Refresher FAQs
1. When should a PEG feeding certificate be refreshed?
A PEG feeding certificate should typically be refreshed according to organisational policy or relevant regulations, often every 2 to 3 years. Regular renewal ensures staff remain competent in safe tube care, feeding techniques, troubleshooting, and infection prevention, supporting high-quality patient care.
2. Do you provide onsite PEG refresher courses?
Yes. At Caring for Care, we deliver onsite PEG feeding refresher courses for groups across the UK. These sessions reinforce best practice in tube care, feeding procedures, hygiene, and problem-solving.
An experienced clinical trainer will tailor the course to your setting and provide practical guidance using real-world scenarios.
3. Do I need to complete a full training before attending the refresher?
Yes. The refresher is designed for staff who already support PEG-fed individuals and have completed formal PEG feeding training. It builds on existing knowledge and is not suitable for new starters without prior training.
4. Will this course renew my workplace PEG feeding competency?
No. The refresher enhances knowledge and confidence but does not replace your organisation’s competency assessment. Employers must carry out their own checks in line with policy and CQC requirements.
5. How often should I complete PEG feeding refresher training?
Most organisations recommend refresher training annually or every two years, depending on policy and staff responsibilities. Regular updates help maintain safe practice and compliance with current guidance.
6. Does the refresher cover updates to best practice and guidelines?
Yes. The course reviews changes in clinical guidance, CQC expectations, and best practice for PEG feeding. It explains what has changed, why it matters, and how to apply updates safely in daily care.
7. Is PEG feeding training the same as gastrostomy feeding tube training?
Yes, PEG feeding training is generally the same as gastrostomy feeding tube training because PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) refers to a type of gastrostomy tube inserted endoscopically. Both courses cover safe tube care, feeding techniques, infection prevention, troubleshooting, and patient comfort. The refresher ensures compliance with current best practices and organisational standards.
8. Can I combine the PEG Feeding Refresher with other courses?
You can combine the PEG Feeding Refresher with complementary clinical topics to create a full‑day training package. Popular options include Dysphagia Awareness, Enteral Feeding Overview, Medication Administration Refresher, Nutrition & Hydration, Stoma Care, Infection Prevention and Control, or Person‑Centred Care.
These modules pair naturally with PEG practice, allowing teams to refresh key clinical skills, reinforce safe decision‑making, and strengthen confidence across related areas of care.
9. Can this Refresher be delivered face-to-face or virtually?
This refresher course can be delivered either face to face or virtually, giving organisations flexibility to choose the format that best suits their team. Because the session focuses on updates, discussion, and reflective practice rather than hands‑on practical skills, both delivery methods work effectively.
Both formats maintain the same high standard of training, with virtual sessions offering the same depth, interaction, and expert guidance as face‑to‑face delivery.
The content, discussion quality, and learning outcomes remain consistent, ensuring no reduction in the level of support or professional value your team receives.
As I have told others... It is the best, most informative training I have ever attended
