    Do I need to have prior knowledge before attending this course?

    Yes you do. You need to have prior knowledge and competence within the subject at a Train the Trainer level. Importantly, we will ask you to provide evidence prior to attending the course. If you are unable to provide evidence you will not be allowed to attend, our normal terms and conditions of booking will apply. This course is to teach you to deliver your own course on the subject, not to teach you the subject itself.

    Will I have to conduct a microteach?

    Yes you will be required to conduct a minimum 15 minute microteach during the course to the rest of the class.

    We will run this course for a maximum of 10 delegates – however for larger groups we can either provide multiple trainers on the same day or run multiple days to get everyone trained.

During this course, you will learn about how to teach and assess key areas. A Basic Life Support (BLS) Train the Trainer Refresher Course is a training course for certified BLS trainers.

The course is designed to update and reinforce the trainer’s knowledge and skills in delivering effective BLS training.

Course Outline:

1. Recovery Position

The recovery position is a first aid maneuver that keeps an unconscious person’s airway open and prevents them from choking on their vomit. It also prevents the tongue from blocking the airway.

The recovery position is taught in the Basic Life Support (BLS) course. In the refresher course, participants will review the correct techniques for placing individuals in the recovery position and practice placing a manikin in the recovery position.

2. Bleeding

The refresher course will cover the causes of bleeding, including external bleeding and internal bleeding. Participants will also learn about effective control measures and risk limitation strategies to minimize harm.

Some of the control measures that will be covered in the refresher course include:

  • Direct pressure
  • Elevation
  • Tourniquets

3. Shock

The course will review the signs and symptoms of shock, as well as the appropriate response to stabilize individuals in shock.

Shock is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body’s tissues do not get enough oxygen. Shock can be caused by a variety of factors, including bleeding, dehydration, and severe infections.

The treatment for shock includes:

  • Laying the person down on their back with their head slightly elevated
  • Loosening any tight clothing
  • Applying blankets or a coat to keep the person warm
  • Stopping any bleeding
  • Giving the person fluids if they are conscious and able to swallow
  • Calling 911 immediately

3. CPR Demonstration and Practice (D.R.S.A.B.C.)

The BLS refresher course will include a demonstration and practice of the D.R.S.A.B.C. protocol for CPR. The D.R.S.A.B.C. protocol stands for:

  • D – Danger
  • R – Response
  • S – Send for help
  • A – Airway
  • B – Breathing
  • C – Circulation

Participants will have the opportunity to practice CPR on a manikin.

4. Unconsciousness and Head Injuries
