Medication Training Aims

This Medication Administration training course is aimed at staff who are responsible for the handling, administrating and disposal of medication within a care environment. Whether that be nurses, carers or community support workers.

The Medication Administration Training will aim to improve delegates knowledge of the different types of medication, the various routes, the 7 R’s, errors and correct documentation.

The courses aims to teach delegates best practice and cover current regulations and legislation.

At the end of the session delegates will have improved their confidence when dealing with service users and their medication.

Module 1 – Policies. Legislation. CQC

Module 2 – Medication. Routes. Formulation. Types. Absorption.

Module 3 – MDT. Roles and Responsibilities. Levels of support. Boundaries and agreed ways of working.

Module 4 – Order. Receive. Store. Record. Transfer. Dispose.

Module 5 – 7 R’s. Group Work. Sources of info. Practical session including MAR charts.

Module 6 – Risk assessments. Person Centred Care. Review.  Covert. Consent. Refuse.

Module 7 – Errors and action.

Module 8 – Infection Control and Technique.

Medication Training For Carers Learning Outcomes

On completion staff will have a much improve awareness of their roles and responsibilities in relation to administering medication.

Staff will have a great understanding of the legislation and regulation surrounded medication in a care setting.

Staff will be able define the 7 R’s and have a greater understanding of errors and relevant actions.

Staff will understand the importance of infection control and correct risk assessing.

Staff will have undertaken a practical exercise involving MAR charts and medication boxes.


This course lasts approximately 6 hours.


Delegates will be issued with certificates of attendance valid for a period of 1 year.
