Freelance Trainer FAQs

What does a freelance trainer do?

You’ll run engaging training sessions for carers and nurses—everything from First Aid to Tracheostomy Care. We handle the bookings, admin, and resources. You focus on what matters: teaching with confidence and care.

Do I need to have teaching experience?

No formal teaching experience? No worries. If you have solid experience in care or nursing and a passion for helping others learn, we can support you to build your skills.

Most trainers start with an AET or PTLLS qualification–if you don’t have it yet, we offer a discounted course.

It is essential that training has been part of your role in-house / on the job but that it might not yet be formalised.

What qualifications do I need?

You’ll need:
– AET/PTLLS or equivalent
DBS check
– UK driving licence
– Relevant care or nursing experience
– NMC/GMC pin if you’re applying for clinical roles.

What equipment will I need?

At a minimum:
– Laptop
– HDMI cable
– Projector

For clinical sessions, you need practical equipment like first aid manikins, and great if you have your own clinical equipment such as venepuncture arms, catheterisation models, or slide sheets. These can be built up over time based on the subjects you teach.

We do offer equipment hire and discounts to help you get started.

There will be a small deposit required for certain hire items and you can get more details during the recruitment process to ensure transparency.

Do I have to travel?

Yes, most training is in-person at care settings across the UK. We aim to keep travel local but flexibility helps your earing potential. You’ll be paid mileage and supported with accommodation if needed.

How much can I earn?

Most trainers earn £35,000–£50,000 per year, with some clinical trainers reaching £80,000+. It depends on your subject areas and availability. You’ll also receive mileage and support with financial planning.

When and how do I get paid?

Submit your paperwork by 4:30pm on the day of training and we’ll process your invoice promptly.

You’ll get paid on time every time within our payment terms, this relies on you completing all off you documentation to enable us to process your invoice. We’re always on hand if you need help with invoicing or paperwork.

I’m nervous—what if I’m not confident?

Totally normal! We’ve got Trainer TV, mentoring support, and a whole community of trainers who’ve been in your shoes. You’ll grow in confidence with every session.

Do I have to write my own training materials?

Nope. We supply all the PowerPoints, handouts, and lesson plans. You bring it to life in your own way with your experience in the subject.

Can I work for other companies too?

Yes. You’re freelance. We’d love to keep you busy, but we respect your freedom to work elsewhere too.

What should I wear?

We’ll send you a Caring for Care polo shirt as you will be representing the company. It’s comfy, professional, and saves time on early mornings.

Where do I need to live?

Anywhere in the UK (We don’t train in Northern Ireland yet). As long as you’re happy to travel, we’ll do our best to keep bookings convenient.

How far in advance are bookings made?

Often 4–8 weeks in advance. The more subjects you can teach and the more consistent your availability, the more we can book you ahead of time.
