What happens at a first aid requalification training?
A First Aid at Work (FAW) requalification training course is a two-day training you take before the 28 days expiry of your certificate. The training helps refresh and update the skills of certified first aiders whose qualifications are almost expired.
The course covers the same content as the original three-day FAW course but in a shorter format.
In the requalification course, participants will:
Review and practice key first aid skills like:
- CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Treating unresponsive people.
- Managing choking, bleeding, and shock.
- Handling bone, muscle, and joint injuries.
- Dealing with emergencies like heart attacks, strokes, and seizures.
- Learn about any changes in first aid rules and techniques.
- Show they can handle different first aid situations.
- Learn about recording accidents and controlling harmful substances (COSHH).
The course usually runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day, with breaks. After finishing the course, participants get a new First Aid at Work certificate, which lasts for another three years.
It’s important to attend the course before the certificate expires. If the certificate has expired, the person is no longer allowed to be a first aider in the workplace until they complete the requalification training.
