Infection Prevention Trainer Course – FAQs

1. What’s the Difference Between the Infection Control Lead Training and the Train the Trainer Course?

The Infection Control Lead Training prepares professionals for leadership roles, focusing on managing infection control programmes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and implementing best practices across care settings. It is ideal for those overseeing infection control at an organisational level.

The Train the Trainer Course, on the other hand, equips participants to teach infection control effectively. It focuses on teaching techniques, session planning, learner engagement, and communication skills.

While both courses cover infection control principles, the Lead course is management-focused, and the Trainer course is designed to develop teaching and facilitation skills.

2. Is Infection Train the Trainer Certification Worth It?

Yes, Train the Trainer certification is highly valuable for professionals looking to deliver structured, engaging, and compliant training within their organisation. It enhances teaching skills, boosts confidence, and ensures consistency in staff development.

Certified trainers can improve team performance, support regulatory compliance, and contribute to better care outcomes—making it a worthwhile investment for both individuals and organisations.

3. How Does the Course Differ from the AET Level 3 Qualification?

The AET Level 3 (Award in Education and Training) is a nationally recognised qualification for teaching in adult education across various subjects. It’s broader and more formal. In contrast, the Infection Control Train the Trainer course is topic-specific, shorter, and designed to help professionals deliver infection control training within care settings. It focuses on practical teaching skills rather than general education theory.

If you already have experience in infection prevention and control, along with a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification and the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET), you may not need to complete a separate Train the Trainer course.

4. When Should This Training Be Renewed?

The Infection Control Train the Trainer course should be renewed every three years to ensure trainers stay up to date with current legislation, best practices, and teaching techniques. Regular renewal helps maintain high standards of infection control training, supports compliance, and ensures trainers continue to deliver effective and engaging sessions.

Please note that this course does not replace your Level 2 certifications, which still need to be kept up to date.

5. Is Infection Prevention Train the Trainer Useful for Career Advancement?

Yes, completing an Infection Prevention Train the Trainer course can support career progression, especially for those in health and social care. It demonstrates leadership potential, enhances teaching and communication skills, and positions you to take on staff development responsibilities.

Certified trainers are often seen as valuable assets in promoting compliance and improving care standards within organisations.

6. What Skills Will I Gain from This Training?

You’ll develop practical teaching skills tailored to infection control, including session planning, learner engagement, presentation and effective communication. The course also enhances your ability to assess understanding, deliver confident presentations, and adapt content to different care settings.

Through peer feedback and a micro-teach session, you’ll refine your delivery style and gain valuable insights into training others successfully.

7. Can I Book This Course for a Group?

Yes, at Caring for Care you can book the Infection Train the Trainer course for groups. Group bookings benefit from discounted rates compared to individual enrolments, flexible scheduling, and onsite delivery options.

This not only saves on travel and accommodation costs but also supports team development and improves training consistency across your organisation.

8. Is This Course Delivered Face-to-Face, Virtually, or as E-Learning?

The Infection Prevention Instructor training is trainer-led and delivered by one of our experienced clinical trainers. For individual bookings, the course is delivered virtually (online). For group bookings, we offer both face-to-face and virtual options, depending on your preference.

Due to the interactive nature of the course—including a 15-minute micro-teach and classroom activities—it is not available as e-learning. Our trainer-led approach encourages active participation, peer feedback, and improved communication skills.

Both virtual and face-to-face formats benefit from our trainer-led approach, which encourages active participation, peer feedback, and improved communication skills, ensuring a more engaging and effective learning experience.
