Why Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Breakaway Training Are Important for Schools and Care Homes

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Breakaway Training are very helpful for people who work in schools and care homes in the UK. Staff often care for people who may show behaviour that is hard to manage. This can affect safety, well-being, and the care or learning given.

This training helps in many ways:

1. Keeping Everyone Safe

  • PBS teaches staff how to stop or reduce challenging behaviour before it happens. Breakaway Training shows safe ways to move away if someone becomes aggressive. This helps keep staff, residents, and pupils safe. It is useful in care homes where people with dementia or disabilities may act in unexpected ways, and in schools where pupils with functional needs may get upset.

2. Helping People Have Better Lives

  • PBS helps staff understand why someone is behaving a certain way. It also helps staff make simple support plans. These plans improve well-being and help pupils and residents feel included and cared for. In schools, it supports learning. In care homes, it helps people feel respected and treated with dignity.

3. Reducing the Use of Force

  • The training teaches staff to use kind and safe ways to manage behaviour. It follows UK rules like those from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for care homes and safeguarding rules in schools. When staff use less force, they build trust and respect. This is good for long-term care in homes and helps pupils grow in schools.

4. Making Staff Feel Ready and Confident

  • PBS gives staff the right tools to handle behaviour in a calm and smart way. Breakaway Training helps them feel ready for risky situations. This makes staff feel more confident and less stressed, which is very important in busy classrooms and care homes.

5. Creating Places Where Everyone Feels Included

  • In schools, PBS helps all pupils, including those with disabilities, to learn well with others. In care homes, it helps each resident get care that suits their needs. This makes everyone feel they belong.

6. Following the Law and Doing the Right Thing

  • Schools and care homes must follow UK laws about behaviour and safety. PBS and Breakaway Training help staff follow these rules. This means better care and learning, and fewer problems for the organisation.

7. Stopping Problems Early

  • PBS helps staff spot behaviour problems early and stop them before they get worse. In schools, this keeps learning on track. In care homes, it helps keep the home calm and peaceful.

By using PBS and Breakaway Training, schools and care homes can be safer, kinder, and more welcoming places. This helps staff, pupils, residents, and families all feel better, while making sure rules and best practices are followed.
