Fire Safety Train the Trainer Course

The Fire Safety Train the Trainer course prepares staff to become qualified in‑house fire safety trainers, able to deliver mandatory and compliant training to their colleagues. Participants learn how to teach effectively, understand different learning styles, prepare training materials, handle questions confidently, and check that learners have understood the content.

What This Course Covers

The Fire Safety/Warden Train the Trainer Course gives delegates both the subject knowledge and the teaching skills to deliver effective, engaging fire safety training within their care setting or organisation.

Over two days, delegates develop confidence in the trainer role, deepen their understanding of fire safety principles, and practise delivering training through a structured micro-teach session — preparing them to train their teams to a consistent, recognised standard.

Fire Train the Trainer Course – Level 3 | 3-Year Certificate

Our Fire Safety Train the Trainer Course is a 2‑day Level 3 programme that prepares staff to deliver fire safety training within their own organisation. The course focuses on how to teach, not on learning fire safety from the beginning.

Delegates should already have basic fire safety knowledge, and the course builds on this by developing teaching skills, confidence, and practical delivery techniques.

Delivered onsite at your premises anywhere in the UK, the course covers the role of a trainer, creating inclusive learning environments, managing different learner needs, and using a range of teaching methods.

Each delegate completes a short micro‑teach session, where they are assessed on their ability to teach. On completion, delegates receive a 3‑year certificate, with accreditation available if required.

Prerequisites

Delegates must already have fire safety knowledge or experience before attending. This may include a current fire safety qualification, a fire warden or fire marshal training certificate, or substantial hands‑on experience in a relevant role. This course does not teach fire safety from the beginning — it teaches delegates how to deliver fire safety training to others.

Day Two — Micro‑Teach Assessment

5: Micro‑Teach

Delegates prepare and deliver a short training session on an assigned fire safety topic chosen from the four areas below. The micro‑teach is prepared as homework after Day One and delivered on Day Two in front of the group.

Each delegate is assessed on how well they teach, not on their fire safety knowledge. The focus is on how they plan, structure, and deliver a session using the teaching skills learned on Day One. Delegates must arrive on Day One with the fire safety knowledge needed to teach their topic confidently.

The four micro‑teach topics are:

  • Fire Basics — the fire triangle and how fire behaves
  • Discovery of Fire — what to do immediately and why alerting others matters
  • Responding to Fire Alarms — understanding alarm signals and correct evacuation steps
  • Fire Extinguisher Types and Use — extinguisher types, choosing the right one, and the P.A.S.S. technique

The trainer observes each micro‑teach and provides clear written and verbal feedback to support each delegate’s development as a trainer.

Course Delivery

How the Fire Safety Instructor Course is Delivered

  • Scenario-based exercises focused on teaching situations and learner management

  • Micro-teach assessment: prepared as homework between Day One and Day Two, delivered and assessed on Day Two
  • Structured written and verbal feedback from the trainer following each micro-teach
Who is this course for?

Who the fire safety trainer course is for

This course is for anyone who has been appointed as — or wants to become — their organisation’s in‑house fire safety trainer. It focuses on teaching skills rather than fire safety knowledge, so delegates must already have a good understanding of fire safety before attending.

Suitable for:

  • Care home managers and deputy managers responsible for fire safety and staff training
  • Senior carers and clinical leads who already understand fire safety and want to train their teams
  • Health and safety officers and facilities managers
  • Qualified fire wardens and fire marshals looking to move into a trainer role
  • Internal trainers who want to add fire safety to their training portfolio
  • HR and compliance staff responsible for mandatory training and CQC readiness
Course Benefits
  • Become a qualified fire safety trainer: Leave with a Level 3 certificate valid for 3 years, plus the skills and confidence to deliver fire safety training in‑house straight away.
  • Teaching skills, not just content: The course focuses on how to teach. Delegates develop real trainer skills through structured learning and a supervised micro‑teach, becoming effective educators — not just subject experts.
  • Two full days of development: The 2‑day format gives delegates time to build teaching skills properly, practise delivery, receive feedback, and improve their approach. It’s not a rushed one‑day overview.
  • Assessed micro‑teach: Each delegate plans and delivers a short training session and receives structured feedback. This builds genuine confidence that theory alone cannot provide.
  • Practical extinguisher demonstration: Delegates practise the P.A.S.S. technique using training equipment, ensuring they can demonstrate extinguisher use safely and accurately in their own sessions.
  • Small group size — maximum 10 delegates: Everyone receives individual attention, personalised feedback, and the support needed to grow as a trainer across both days.
  • Onsite delivery across the UK: We come to your premises, reducing travel costs and disruption. Training takes place in a familiar environment that reflects your real‑world fire safety needs.
  • Accreditation available: If your organisation requires a formally accredited outcome, this can be arranged — simply confirm at the time of booking.
Benefits for Organisation

Why Choose a Train the Trainer Approach for Fire Safety?

Training one person to train many is far more cost‑effective than booking external fire safety courses for every staff member — especially in care and healthcare settings where shift patterns and turnover make regular training difficult.

Benefits for your organisation include:

  • Train your whole team for less: Once qualified, your in‑house trainer can deliver fire safety training to as many staff as needed, with no extra cost per person.
  • Training that fits your schedule: No waiting for external dates. Your trainer can run sessions around shifts, inductions, and new starters.
  • Relevant to your setting: Your trainer knows your building, evacuation routes, residents, and team. This makes the training more practical and meaningful than a generic external session.
  • Meets legal requirements: The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all staff to receive fire safety training. A qualified in‑house trainer helps you meet and maintain this duty.
  • Supports CQC compliance: Fire safety sits under the Safe domain of the CQC Single Assessment Framework. Having a trained in‑house trainer shows a proactive, well‑led approach to safety and governance.
  • Accreditation available: If your organisation needs accredited fire safety training delivered by your trainer, this can be arranged once the course is completed.
Course FAQs

Fire Safety Trainer Course FAQs

1. What is a Fire Safety or Fire Warden Train the Trainer Course?

A Fire Safety or Fire Warden Train the Trainer Course qualifies staff to deliver fire safety training to colleagues in‑house. It combines key fire safety topics — fire basics, alarm response, evacuation, and extinguisher use — with practical teaching skills.

Delegates also complete a micro‑teach assessment. After the course, they receive a 3‑year certificate and can train their own teams without relying on external trainers.

2. How long is the Fire Safety Train the Trainer Course?

The course runs over 2 days (12 hours total).

  • Day One: Teaching skills and the trainer role
  • Day Two: Fire safety content, practical extinguisher work, and the micro‑teach assessment

Delegates prepare their micro‑teach session as homework between Day One and Day Two.

3. What is the micro‑teach element?

The micro‑teach is a short, assessed training session delivered by each delegate on a fire safety topic. It is prepared after Day One and delivered on Day Two.

The assessment focuses on teaching skills — planning, structure, delivery, and engagement. The trainer provides written and verbal feedback to support each delegate’s development. It is the practical step between learning how to teach and actually doing it.

4. Is the course available online or virtually?

No. This course is delivered face‑to‑face and onsite at your premises. The practical elements — including hands‑on extinguisher training and the micro‑teach — cannot be delivered effectively online.

We deliver onsite across the UK at a time that suits your organisation.

5. How many delegates can attend?

Up to 10 delegates can attend. The small group size ensures everyone receives individual feedback on their micro‑teach, enough hands‑on practice, and personalised support to build real confidence as a trainer.

6. What certificate will delegates receive?

Delegates receive a Level 3 Fire Safety Train the Trainer certificate, valid for 3 years.

Accreditation is also available for organisations that require a formally accredited qualification — please confirm this when booking.

7. Does this course meet the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005?

Yes. The fire safety content aligns with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires employers to provide appropriate fire safety training.

Completing this course qualifies your in‑house trainer to deliver that legally required training on an ongoing basis.

8. When is a Fire Safety Train the Trainer course due for renewal?

A Fire Safety Train the Trainer certificate is due for renewal every three years, when refresher training is required. High‑hazard or residential care settings may need annual refreshers.

Annual CPD is advised, and refresher training should be completed sooner if procedures, equipment, or legislation change.

9. Is it compulsory to have a Fire Marshal or Fire Safety Train the Trainer qualification before teaching fire safety or fire warden courses?

No, it isn’t legally compulsory, but it is strongly expected.

Anyone delivering fire safety or fire warden training must be competent, and a Fire Safety Train the Trainer course provides clear evidence of that competence.

Some organisations also require a Fire Marshal certificate, especially in higher‑risk environments.

10. What is the difference between a Fire Safety Train the Trainer course and the Level 3 AET?

A Fire Safety Train the Trainer course teaches staff how to deliver fire‑safety training in‑house, focusing on practical fire safety topics and teaching skills.

The Level 3 AET is a broader introductory teaching qualification covering general training principles, not fire‑specific content, and prepares learners to teach any subject.
