What equipment and qualifications do you need?
Hi, and welcome to Caring for Care!
Today, we’re covering everything you need to know about becoming a successful trainer with us, from essential qualifications to recommended equipment and the training subjects you could be teaching.
A valid driving licence, DBS, background in Health and Social Care is a must, and we also require clinical trainers to hold a valid NMC/GMC pin number.

First, let’s talk about qualifications. To train with us, you’ll need either the PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) or AET (Award in Education and Training) certification.
These qualifications are fundamental for effective training, equipping you with the skills to engage adult learners, deliver content clearly, and manage different learning needs.
The AET course, for instance, typically takes a few days to complete and is a valuable investment in your career as a freelance trainer, opening doors to more opportunities in health and social care training.
We understand that you may have experience as an in-house trainer, but working freelance often requires formal qualifications like AET or PTLLS to meet industry standards.
Remember, this is different from assessor qualifications—these certifications prepare you to lead training sessions, which is different to assessing qualifications.
If you don’t have it yet, no problem!
We offer AET as a public course, and as a Caring for Care trainer, you’ll receive a discount. Of course, other training providers are available—whatever works best for you.
Let’s move on to equipment. Having the right setup is essential.
At a minimum, you’ll need a laptop, HDMI cable, and projector to ensure a smooth training experience.
For practical training, you might consider investing in items like first aid manikins, venepuncture kits, catheterisation equipment, and moving and handling aids like slide sheets or a foldable hoist.
If you facilitate online classes, a good-quality camera and microphone/headset can enhance the experience, though these aren’t required.
If you already have training experience but are missing the formal qualification, it’s often due to employment policies where in-house experience may have been sufficient.
As a freelance trainer, however, these qualifications can open doors, ensuring you’re set up for success wherever you teach.
By meeting these qualifications and being well-equipped, you’re ready to deliver exceptional sessions and make a lasting impact.
Owning your own equipment is a great advantage, as it allows us to assign you to more courses without the delay of delivering specific items.
Plus, we offer our trainers discounted rates on equipment to help you build your toolkit.
We also want to make your role hassle-free by providing a Caring for Care polo shirt. This not only gives you a professional look but also reduces decision fatigue—one less thing to think about when preparing for your sessions!
As a trainer with us, you have flexibility in what you teach. You can lead courses in any area where you have experience and competence, from first aid to advanced clinical skills.
If there’s a new area you’d like to explore, we’re here to support you in gaining the necessary competencies.
To make your day-to-day even easier, Caring for Care will also provide you with a branded polo shirt.
This not only saves you the hassle of choosing your outfit but also ensures a consistent and professional look for you and our clients.
At Caring for Care, we’re here to set you up for success with the resources, support, and opportunities to help you deliver high-quality training.
If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact, we’d love to have you on our team!
